Our people

The Magic Bus team is headed by Matthew Spacie, Founder and CEO, and Pratik Kumar, COO. There are four separate boards governing our organisation, one in each of the countries in which we operate.

Sonya Timms, Director, Magic Bus UK

With 15 years experience in the charity sector as a fundraiser and manager at charities including NSPCC and Marie Curie Cancer Care, Sonya joined Magic Bus in 2012. She recently travelled extensively in India and gained insight into the challenges faced by children, young people, families and communities living in, and marginalised, by poverty.

 

In addition to her position as Director of the Magic Bus UK office, Sonya is a Trustee for Endometriosis UK. Sonya is active in the wider voluntary sector as a speaker at conferences, mentor and member of the Institute of Fundraising.

Ellen Brooks, Relationship Executive, Magic Bus UK

Ellen joined Magic Bus in 2012 bringing with her four and a half years’ experience organising fundraising events at national charity Mencap. In 2000 she spent six weeks travelling across India which gave her a great love for the country and its people.

Peter Chierakul, Senior Relationship Executive, Magic Bus UK

Peter joined Magic Bus in 2012 having previously worked in the corporate and voluntary sector. He is particularly interested in work focussed on social exclusion and has experience developing and sourcing funding for projects in youth projects, criminal justice, education and homelessness.

Coreen Reilly, Office Manager, Magic Bus UK

Coreen joined Magic Bus in 2012. She has previously worked in Australia for UNHCR and Frontier Services, an organisation providing community services to families living in outback Australia and more recently an environmental think tank in London.

Tadg O’Keeffe, Senior Relationship Executive, Magic Bus UK
 

Tadg joined the Magic Bus UK team in 2013 after volunteering with Magic Bus in India, producing fundraising videos of their work. Having seen Magic Bus’s work firsthand, Tadg was impressed with the positive impact Magic Bus has and wanted to continue his involvement.  He has worked at both UNICEF UK and Mencap.

Magic Bus UK Board of Directors

 

Bernard Horn, Chairman

Bernard Horn had a varied career in financial services spanning 30 years, including 6 years as a Main Board Director of the NatWest Group (FTSE 100 company). His roles included five years as Chief Executive of the International Businesses and a similar period as Operations Director.

 

Since leaving NatWest, Bernard has developed a portfolio of activities acting both as Chairman and non executive Director, concentrating on smaller, entrepreneurial companies in consulting and software development and pro bono activities.

 
 

Jim Marshall, Trustee

Jim, a Chartered Accountant, is Group Tax Director of Pearson plc, the world’s leading learning company. Prior to Pearson, Jim held a number of senior roles in tax in the UK and US, working at Diageo and Cadbury, where he was also Group Tax Director. He acts as a trustee to the Pearson pension scheme.

 

Jim joined the board of Magic Bus after visiting one of the Magic Bus India programmes in Delhi.

 
 

The Hon. Nisha Paul, Trustee

Nisha Paul is married to The Hon. Akash Paul and lives in London. She is on the Advisory Board of Verve magazine, a highly respected international magazine focused on India and writes exclusively for them, interviewing high profile personalities from the business and entertainment world.

 

Nisha has extensive experience of the non-profit sector, serving on the board of VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas), and acts as the Chair of the Magic Bus UK Gala.

 
 

Jonathan Rawes, Trustee

Jonathan Rawes worked for many years in senior legal and managerial roles with Reuters. This included living in Hong Kong for three years, providing legal advice and support to local management throughout the Asia Pacific region.

 

In July 2008 he achieved with merit the ICSA Postgraduate Certificate in Charity Management from London South Bank University.

 
     
     
Hans Porsche, Trustee

Hans is an agronomist and business angel with a long track record in sustainable production of agricultural goods and services, in particular in aquaculture. He is a co-founder and director of HP-Capital Partners, an investment company focusing on opportunities in the sustainable use of natural resources and early stage direct investments.

 

As trustee of Magic Bus Hans aspires to help millions of children to learn through sport to choose an empowered life in a sustainable society.
